Notifications

Get notified when something needs your attention.

PingBeacons notifications help you stay informed about monitoring incidents, recoveries, and SSL certificate expiry. You can control available email and in-app notification preferences from your account.

Monitoring and notifications work together

A monitor detects and records a problem. Your notification preferences determine which available alerts you want to receive.

1. Open notification preferences

1

Sign in to PingBeacons

Open your PingBeacons account and go to your settings.

2

Open notification preferences

Find the notification settings where your available alert preferences are managed.

3

Choose the notifications you want

Enable or disable the available email and in-app options according to how you want to receive monitoring alerts.

4

Save your preferences

Save the settings so future monitoring notifications follow your selected preferences.

2. Notification channels

Email notifications

Receive enabled monitoring notifications at the email address associated with your PingBeacons account.

In-app notifications

Keep enabled monitoring alerts visible inside PingBeacons while you are using the application.

Use an email address you actively monitor

Monitoring alerts are only useful when they reach someone who can investigate the problem.

3. Incident notifications

When PingBeacons detects a monitoring failure and an incident is created, enabled incident notifications can tell you that the monitored service needs attention.

A monitor is checked

PingBeacons performs its normal monitoring check or evaluates an expected heartbeat.

A problem is detected

The monitor enters a problem state and the failure can be recorded as an incident.

An alert can be sent

PingBeacons uses your enabled notification preferences to deliver the available incident alert.

4. Recovery notifications

Knowing that a service recovered is just as important as knowing that it failed. Recovery notifications help close the loop after an incident.

1

An active incident exists

PingBeacons previously detected a problem with the monitored service.

2

The service becomes healthy again

A later monitoring result indicates that the service has recovered.

The incident is resolved

PingBeacons records the recovery and resolves the active incident.

A recovery alert can be sent

If enabled, the appropriate notification lets you know that the monitored service has recovered.

5. SSL expiry notifications

SSL monitoring has notification preferences for certificate expiry so upcoming certificate problems do not have to rely only on manual dashboard checks.

SSL expiry email

Enable the available email preference when you want SSL expiry notifications delivered by email.

SSL expiry in-app

Enable the available in-app preference when you want SSL expiry notifications visible inside PingBeacons.

Read SSL monitoring guide

6. Recommended notification setup

Keep incident alerts enabled

Important production monitors should be able to tell you when a problem is detected.

Keep recovery alerts enabled

Recovery alerts tell you when an incident no longer appears to be active.

Enable SSL expiry alerts

Use SSL notifications for important HTTPS services so certificate expiry receives attention.

Keep account details current

Update your account information if the email address used for monitoring notifications changes.

7. If you do not receive an email

1

Check your preferences

Confirm that the relevant email notification option is enabled.

2

Check your account email

Make sure the account is using the email address you expect.

3

Check spam or junk folders

Email providers can occasionally classify automated notifications incorrectly.

4

Check PingBeacons activity

Verify that the expected monitoring incident or recovery was actually recorded.
